Will a Bitaxe mine a block?
Your chances are better than you might think
Gary Woodfine
One of the most common questions about Solo Mining with a Bitaxe , usually is phrased around what are the chances of a Bitaxe miner of ever finding a block?
Well, in true consultant style, the answer involves a It depends, as most answers relying on technology do. However, that is not really going to cut it for most people, so lets dive in and explore this question a little further.
Lets take an example of a Bitaxe 602 , these guys come with the ability of a 1.2 TH/stock, with an incredible efficiency of 15 J/TH, and low power consumption. But if you go to Solochance.com and type in that Hash Rate the initial figures may seem a little disappointing.
I appreciate these odds may at first put more than a little dent in your get rich quick scheme with a Bitaxe miner. But, these figures shouldn't deter you. It's important to consider the more broader benefits of solo mining and what you'll actually achieve first and foremost with Solo Mining with a Bitaxe.
Bitaxe stands out due to its energy efficiency and affordability. With a power consumption as low as 15 watts, comparable to a small LED bulb, it enables mining in environments where energy constraints or noise considerations might otherwise deter the use of standard mining rigs. This makes it an ideal choice for home miners who want to contribute to the network while keeping operational costs low.
The Bitaxe's open-source nature allows users to inspect, tweak, and optimise device components, reflecting a decentralised ethos fundamental to Bitcoin. This transparency and flexibility empower individuals to take control of their mining operations, fostering a community-driven approach to Bitcoin mining that aligns with the Bitcoins core principles.
Bitaxe solo mining success stories
Despite the odds being stacked incredibly against Solo Miners, there have been successes.
First Solo Mining Block 853,742 (24 July 2024)
The first Bitaxe success at finding a block, is truly remarkable, considering the odds stacked against it.
On July 24, 2024, a solo miner running a Bitaxe device around ~500 GH/s (gigahashes per second), rumored to be a Bitaxe Supra, stunned the Bitcoin world by mining Bitcoin block #853,742 via Solo CKPool.
When we take a look at the mempool.space to verify this claim we can see the details relating this this block.
When we start to dive a little deeper into this achievement, it becomes even more startling and amazing. Especially when you start consider that according to rumours this Bitaxe in question was a Bitaxe Supra, designed as a solo miner, delivers a 500 - 700GH/s hash rate with low power usage, powered by an advanced BM1368 ASIC chip.
The total Bitcoin network hash rate in mid-2024 was on the order of 10^20
hashes per second, whereas a Bitaxe’s hashrate is on the order of 10^8–10^9
.In other words, the Bitaxe made up roughly 1 in a billion of total mining power at the time; roughly a 1 in 1.1 billion chance of solving a given block.
If we estimate that this miner was running at approximately 500GH/s , and plug that into Solo Chance, we'll see that the Bitaxe supposedly stood a snowballs chance in hell to find a block.
Statistically, a single Bitaxe miner might expect to solve a block only once in thousands years. Yet it happened in July 2024, underscoring the lottery-like nature of solo mining. This result went someway to illustrate the era of solo miners finding blocks was no longer just theoretical.
you've got to be in it to win it!
Second Solo Mining Block 887212 (10 March 2025)
Not even a year later, a second block was mined using a Bitaxe. On this occasion it was a Bitaxe Ultra, delivering a 500 GH/s hash rate with low power usage. Powered by advanced BM1368 ASIC chip.
What makes this second Bitaxe win especially interesting is the mining setup used. According to reports, the individual was actually running a cluster of 6 Bitaxe devices, with a combined Hash Rate of 3.3 TH/s (Terra Hashes per second) total. If we plug those odds into Solo Chance, we'd establish that this particular miners chances were minimal, yet they succeeded.
This DIY mini-mining farm included at least one Bitaxe Ultra model as part of the setup. Essentially, the miner increased their lottery winning odds by operating multiple Bitaxes simultaneously.
A third Bitaxe block is imminent
Globally, there is estimate to be approximately 50,000 Bitaxe units hashing, and the community of solo miners continues to grow. Every ten‑minute Bitcoin block offers another chance, and statistically a third Bitaxe jackpot could land any day now. For newcomers this looming milestone is exciting proof that Bitcoin home mining continues to gain momentum.
It could be you!
